What's your take on PNG music's direction heading into 2026?

Trending discussion··4 comments

Papua New Guinea has such a rich musical landscape, and it feels like we're seeing some interesting shifts in what's getting attention lately. There's been a lot of buzz around different artists and production styles emerging from the PNG scene, especially with collaborations between producers and artists exploring new sounds.

I'm curious what people think the current PNG music scene is doing well, and where it might be heading. Are there particular artists, production styles, or collaborations that have caught your ear recently? What makes certain PNG music tracks resonate with you—is it the lyrics, instrumentation, cultural elements, or something else entirely?

Also, for those following PNG music closely: how do you see the local scene balancing traditional influences with modern production trends? And if you're from PNG or follow the music closely, what would you like to see more of in the coming years?

The production quality on some of these newer tracks has really improved. I'm interested in how local artists are getting access to better studios and equipment.

Does anyone else think there's been a shift toward more collaborative projects? It seems like artists are working together more than they used to.

I appreciate when PNG artists blend traditional instruments with modern beats. That's where the magic happens for me. Would love to hear more of that.
