What's your take on the new Resident Evil film direction?

Trending discussion··4 comments

So there's a fresh take on Resident Evil coming to the big screen, and from what's been shown so far, it looks like they're going in a pretty different direction from previous adaptations. The filmmaker behind this one has a pretty interesting track record with horror and dark comedy, which has me curious about the tone they're bringing to the franchise.

Resident Evil as a film property has had some ups and downs over the years, so there's definitely room for experimentation. What I'm wondering is whether they'll stay true to the video game roots or if they're taking more creative liberties with the story and characters. The teaser material suggests some serious atmospheric horror, but it's hard to tell where the actual story will go.

For those of you who've seen glimpses of this—what's your first impression? Are you excited about seeing a new interpretation, or do you have concerns about how they might handle the source material? And if you're a fan of the games, do you think a filmmaker's different background could actually be a refreshing change compared to the previous film franchise?

I'm cautiously optimistic. The previous RE movies had their charm but often strayed too far from the games. Curious if this version will lean more into survival horror or action.

Anyone else think horror films work better when they're not trying to please everyone? A focused vision could actually be what RE needs instead of another bloated blockbuster.

The IMAX angle is interesting. Horror usually works better on smaller screens for intimacy, but if they shot it properly, it could add real intensity to certain scenes.

Does anyone know if this will pull from specific games in the series, or is it more of a standalone story? That would actually make a huge difference in expectations for me.
